Telepresence

As part of Velocity Lab 2012, a "Telepresence Workshop" led by Jonathon Ward will connect actors in New York and London to explore live theater with games in digital creative space and the global dimensions of storytelling in interactive video.

Coordinating with Ward, J Dakota Powell and Maya Seidler will produce and direct the workshop in London.

Telepresence Workshop - Autumn 2012

LoNyLa London & Los Angeles test the Vidyo telepresence & videoconferencing platform.Interactive technology expands theatrical space and enables live performance in a global dimension.

In a global theatre, a single performance can happen in multiple locations and time zones to achieve a unity of time and space.

In a global theatre, London actors and audience are telepresent in New York, and vice versa. Whilst London transits into night, New York continues to work in daylight.

However, participants in both cities create and experience a live story in the way that people witness global political-economic events unfolding with a unity of action and consequence.

During the three-month workshop, British and American actors will use telepresence to develop a performance with the working title of “Comedy of Terrors.” Based on mistaken identity plot ideas from Shakespeare, Plautus, and others, this format touches upon contemporary issues of stolen identity, lack of identity, and the blurring of identity endemic in the digital age.
