LoNyLa

About

LoNyLa (LOndon-New York-Los Angeles) emerged from what was originally intended to be a media & entertainment alumni group by a few Oxford and Yale graduates during a reception at the Oxford and Cambridge Club in London in October 2010. We were going to organize arts-related events for Oxbridge and Ivy League alumni in London – a break from 9-to-5 work schedules and research-related work.

Our History

Founder J Dakota Powell then ran the concept of a developmental lab that leverages digital technology to enable artists to leap across geographic and industry divides past veteran producers and entertainment executives – all of whom responded with enthusiasm.

Various technologies, such as video conferencing tools and website-building applications, are now off-the-shelf, inexpensive and robust. A network of artists located in London, New York and Los Angeles makes sense in an increasingly connected world.

Powell then rang Yale School of Drama actor/Broadway producer Pun Bandhu, seeking his involvement. Bandhu’s positive reaction started the ball rolling. Fuelled largely by Yale College and Yale School of Drama graduates, LoNyLa’s management contacted British and American theatre artists and invited them into the lab.

As more artists got involved, the transatlantic network began to grow. Artists from other parts of the world, such as Hong Kong, plugged in. LoNyLa has begun to spread its tentacles to the Far East, with new units recently forming in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Programming initiatives have expanded, including an international theatre festival and 4-city film & TV conference/lab (in the works).
LoNyLa is grateful for the Yale College and Yale School of Drama graduates who have made the organisation and its programmes possible.
